Shonda L. English.
A recording artist, musician, broadcaster, and keeper of gospel tradition, Shonda L. English brings timeless music and heartfelt ministry to listeners of FAS Radio Station.
Rooted in gospel from the beginning.
Born in Boston and raised in Sumter, South Carolina, Shonda began singing when she was three and learned piano by ear at five. She grew into an accomplished vocalist and multi-instrumentalist whose music and ministry have reached audiences across the United States and internationally.
Known to many as The Gospel Diva, she brings warmth and deep knowledge of gospel music to The Old Landmark Gospel Hour. The program celebrates traditional gospel, quartet favorites, choir music, and the artists carrying those sounds forward.
Music that carries the tradition.
On her independent label, Gospel Diva Records, Shonda released Travelin’ in 2023. The album brings together her voice with gospel artists including Dorothy Norwood, Lemmie Battles, Richard Gibbs, Jonathan Dubose, and Bishop Neal Roberson.
Her single “Step Right In” continues to connect with radio listeners and reflects the joy and encouragement at the center of her work.
Leadership, ministry, and legacy.
Shonda’s work extends beyond the radio studio. She serves in music leadership, teaches and encourages fellow musicians, and helps preserve the gospel traditions that shaped her life.
She also continues the legacy of her father, the late Bishop W. T. English, through BEEA Music Publishing and the annual Gospel in the Park celebration in Sumter.
“If you never take a leap of faith, you'll never know how high you can fly.”Shonda L. English
