English is an acclaimed gospel recording artist, musician, choir director, broadcaster, author, and passionate advocate for traditional gospel music. As the host of The Old Landmark Gospel Hour on FAS Radio Network, Shonda brings listeners an inspiring blend of timeless gospel classics, quartet favorites, choir music, and today's leading traditional gospel artists. Her warm personality, deep knowledge of gospel music, and heartfelt ministry have made her one of the genre's most respected radio voices.
Born in Boston, Massachusetts, and raised in Sumter, South Carolina, Shonda began singing at the age of three and learned to play piano by ear by age five. Today, she is an accomplished vocalist and multi-instrumentalist whose ministry has touched audiences throughout the United States and internationally.
A recording artist on her independent label, Gospel Diva Records, Shonda released her critically acclaimed album Travelin' in 2023, featuring collaborations with gospel legends including Dorothy Norwood, Lemmie Battles, Richard Gibbs, Jonathan Dubose, and Bishop Neal Roberson. Her uplifting single "Step Right In" continues to receive radio airplay and inspire listeners everywhere.
Beyond the microphone, Shonda serves as Vice President of the Southern Region Music Department of the Progressive National Baptist Convention, is a guest clinician with the GMWA Upstate Chapter, and remains committed to preserving the rich heritage of gospel music through leadership, education, and ministry.
She also carries on the legacy of her late father, Bishop W. T. English, by overseeing BEEA Music Publishing and hosting the annual Gospel in the Park celebration in Sumter, South Carolina.
